Summit Entertainment, who shrewdly decided to split the fourth Twilight film into two parts, has now announced a release date for the 2nd and final part to their ultra-successful saga.

Interestingly, despite the fact the films are being shot simultaneously, the second part will be released nearly a year later on November 16th 2012.

The films are being directed by Academy Award winner Bill Condon and will star the returning Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Billy Burke and the entire Cullen Family cast members.

The first part, which is currently being adaptated by Melissa Rosenberg, will hit theaters on November 18th 2011.

UPDATE (7/6/10): Eclipse has generated $176,382,220 million in its first 6 days of release, placing it 7th overall. It fell just shy of New Moon’s $178.8 million feat.

UPDATE (7/1/10): Including it’s midnight totals, Eclipse generated $68.5 million on Wednesday, its opening day of release. It’s the biggest Wednesday opening of all time and second overall, trailing New Moon’s $72.7 million opening.

According to Box Office Mojo, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has the widest opening release ever at 4,416 locations. It scored the largest opening for midnight showings with over $30 million which includes the IMAX midnight milestone of grossing in excess of $1 million at 192 venues.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

byFreddy=Legend

The third installment in the Twilight franchise eclipses (pun intended) New Moon in every possible way.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse continues the story of Bella Swan(Kristen Stewart) as she struggles to maintain a “normal” life with Edward Cullen(Robert Pattinson), while attempting to keep her friendship with Jacob Black(Taylor Lautner). Of course, the hatred Edward and Jacob have for one another isn’t going away. This time around, Victoria(now played by Bryce Dallas Howard) is creating an army of Vampire newborns to take out the Cullen clan. The Cullen’s form an uneasy truce with the wolf pack and decide they need to work together to protect Bella at all costs.

The movie is surprisingly very different from the first two films. Of course changing directors will do that. David Slade(Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) helms this film, it’s obvious. He brought an edge to the franchise not seen before. The opening of the film is very dark, gothic; adding a new layer of uneasiness to the story. He balanced the big action scenes, as well as the intense feeding scenes very well with the teen melodrama of Bella’s life. The film also features two flashback sequences telling the history of Rosalie and Jasper. These two scene were my favorite in the entire film. They drew you in to another period and showed you just how big the Twilight universe could be. Plus it was great to just see a different side, a more human side to Rosalie and Jasper after being background characters for two films. [CLICK HERE TO READ THE REST IN OUR FORUM]

We all knew it was coming.

Summit Entertainment has finally confirmed today that “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” will indeed be released as two separate films. ‘Part One’ will officially hit theaters on November 18th 2011 with ‘Part Two’ rumored for a possible June 2012 release.

Bill Condon will direct both films and all the key cast members will be returning. Shooting begins this Fall.

According to Dark Horizons, via THR, Esq., that Summit still only has an option to do one film of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn”. However, they are vigorously pursuing to split the final chapter into two films.

At this time, both Stephanie Meyer and director Bill Condon are locked down for two, but certain cast members are not. Their source say, however, that “This thing is gonna be two movies. With or without the cast intact.” Renegotiations are underway with the various stars holding out for money.

Fear not, Twi-hards, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are all getting big raises to return and the studio is said to be close to finalising agreements with them.
