After 3 long years, Robert Galluzzo’s ”The Psycho Legacy” has officially announced a distributor and a release date.

Shout! Factory will be unleashing the feature-length documentary on a two-disc set on October 19th. The special features are uncomfirmed, but according to the doc’s official website, it will have three hours of bonus features that will include cast & crew panel discussions as well as a tour of the Psycho house. Retail price is $19.93.

In related news, the blu-ray edition of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho will also be released the same day to commemorate the film’s 50th anniversary.

 

June 16th 1960: Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho was unleashed 50 years ago today. It earned $32 million which translates to nearly $370 million to today’s ticket prices. The film changed the face of filmmaking, and ushered in countless of imitators, spawned 3 sequels, a spin-off and a much-maligned remake in 1998.

Review: Alfred Hitchcock was in his late 50’s when he set out to make Psycho. This was a film that – before changing the course of filmmaking – did not want to be made by the studio. So, Hitchcock would ultimately foot the bill to the tune of $800,000 to get the film made. It was certainly a far cry from the lavish productions of previous efforts like Vertigo and North by Northwest, but that was the point. Hitchcock had the strong desire to make a cheaper, darker and edgier film then he ever had before. So, after anonymously purchasing the rights to Robert Bloch’s novel for a mere $9000, it was decided that Psycho would be just that film, and in the end, it was to become Hitchcock’s most famous and successful film. According to Blu-Ray.com, the classic horror films The Exorcist, Psycho & Jaws will be coming to blu-ray. The Exorcist is expected to come out around Halloween. While Jaws and Psycho are yet to be given release dates. The cult classic Evil Dead is also slated for a blu-ray release sometime this year as well. There are no specs that have been given on any of these movies. But we will keep you up dated.
